Notes:
Platelet count is part of the CBC and CBC with Diff. May be ordered as an individual test.
Testing is also performed in the Rapid Response Lab.
Clinical Utility: A normal platelet count is important to the process of hemostasis. Increased and decreased levels may be seen with certain disease states. Characteristics that may affect test results: hemolysis and cold agglutinins. For samples that show consistent platelet clumping please contact the Hemepath Resident On-Call for further instructions as necessary.

• Those containing clots
• Substandard mixing or collection
• Expired or improperly stored collection tubes
• Improperly filled tubes based on collection tube manufacturer’s
guidelines
• Specimens contaminated with IV fluid
• Hemolyzed
• Improperly labeled
