General Information
Alias: Plasmodium, Blood Parasite
Performed: 24 hrs.
Turn Around Time: Results available within 4 hrs of receipt of specimen.
CPT Codes: 87207
Performed By: Hematology
Notes: Whenever a Malaria Preparation test is reported "parasites seen", a Hemacolor Stain is automatically ordered. The Hemacolor Stain (performed by Bone Marrow Lab) aids in the identification of malarial parasites. See "Hemacolor Stain" for more information. No parasites seen is a normal result. Identification of species may be more difficult or impossible if blood is received in lab greater than 2 hours after specimen is drawn.
