Clinical Utility: The mutation panel consists of the four most frequent mutations (N314D, Q188R, S135L, K285N) in Galactose-1-Phosphate Uridyl Transferase gene and is performed by polymerase chain reaction and detection. The mutation detection rate is estimated to be 70% in Caucasions but reduced in other ethnic groups. This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the Laboratory Services Section at DSHS. The test has not been approved or cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Test results should not be used to diagnose but should be interpreted in the context of clinical findings, family history, and other laboratory data. Errors in the interpretation of results may occur if information given to the laboratory is inaccurate or incomplete.
